HEY, I’M SIVANUJA BALAJI

A Life in Art

With over 30 years of experience in Indian classical dance, Guru Shrimathi Sivanuja Balaji is a Bharatanatyam performer, choreographer, Nattuvanar, artistic curator, and educator rooted in the Kalakshetra tradition.

Her artistic journey embraces Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi, and Mohiniyattam, alongside theatre, choreography, research, and creative collaborations. Through her work, she continues to carry forward the discipline and artistic excellence of classical dance while inspiring new generations of artists.

In Her Own Words

“Dance has never been just a performance for me. It is a language through which I understand, express, and connect.”

My journey with Bharatanatyam began with a deep sense of curiosity and gradually became a lifelong discipline. Over the years, dance has taught me that every movement has meaning, every rhythm has emotion, and every performance carries a story.

I believe that tradition is not something we simply preserve; it is something we experience, understand, and carry forward with sincerity. My gurus have shaped not only my technique but also my understanding of discipline, devotion, expression, and the responsibility that comes with learning this beautiful art form.
